Milling machine several processing methods

Apr 14, 2023

1. Face milling: In this process, the milling cutter removes material from the workpiece's flat surface by moving the cutter perpendicular to the workpiece's surface.

2. Peripheral milling: In this process, the milling cutter removes material from the workpiece's peripheral surface by rotating the milling cutter around the workpiece.

3. End milling: In end milling, the milling cutter is used to create a flat surface on the end of the workpiece.

4. Slot milling: This process involves the milling cutter creating slots in the workpiece by moving the cutter back and forth in a linear motion.

5. Chamfer milling: Chamfer milling is used to create beveled edges on the workpiece by using a milling cutter to remove material at an angle.

6. Drilling: In milling machines, drilling is often performed with a drill bit or counterbore to create holes in the workpiece.

7. Tapping: Tapping involves threading the inside of the holes created in the workpiece with a tap.

8. Boring: Boring is used to create internal holes of different shapes and sizes by enlarging an existing hole in the workpiece.

9. Reaming: Reaming is used to improve the accuracy of an existing hole by removing any excess material.

10. Broaching: Broaching is used to create complex internal shapes by using a multi-toothed cutting tool that rapidly removes material.
