CNC Precision Machined Parts: A World of Diverse Applications

Automotive & Motorsports
From everyday sedans to Formula-1 cars, CNC mills, lathes and 5-axis centres produce engine blocks, pistons, cylinder heads, gearbox housings, brake calipers and drive-axle hypoid gears. Short set-up times let OEMs switch from 20-part prototype runs to 10 000-piece volume without new tooling, while ±0.01 mm tolerances keep combustion compression ratios-and MPG figures-exactly where the engineers want them.

Aerospace & Space Flight
Turbine disks, blisks, landing-gear struts, antenna brackets and spool fittings for carbon-fibre honeycomb panels are hogged out of Ti-6Al-4V, Inconel 718 or 7050-T7451 aluminium. 5-axis machining creates internal cooling channels in blades that survive 1 600 °C gas streams, and hybrid CNC/additive workflows finish 3-D printed rocket combustion chambers to ±25 µm so thrust vectors stay on target during lunar landings.

Medical & Dental
Swiss-type CNC lathes cut bone screws (Ø2 mm, 20 mm long) with 0.2 mm pitch threads; 5-axis mills machine acetabular cups and titanium cranial plates to patient-specific CT scans. Surface finishes ≤ Ra 0.2 µm and edge radii down to 10 µm reduce tissue irritation, while lot-traceable bar-stock keeps FDA auditors happy.

Electronics & Smart Devices
Smartphone aluminium unibodies, laptop hinges and heat sinks for 5G base stations are milled at 30 000 rpm with 0.1 mm end-mills to create ±50 µm pocket depths for PCB clearances. CNC machining also produces injection-mould inserts that stamp out millions of micro-USB and Lightning connectors.

Energy & Power Generation
Onshore gas turbines, offshore wind gearboxes and nuclear reactor coolant pumps rely on CNC turned shafts (≤ 4 m long, ≤ 250 mm Ø) with cylindricity ≤ 5 µm, plus CNC ground bearing journals to IT5 tolerance. Polished root forms on compressor blades boost aerodynamic efficiency by 0.5 %-enough to power 300 extra homes per turbine.

Semiconductor & Optics
Diamond-turning centres machine copper-nickel alloy wafer chucks with 1 µm flatness, while micro-mills create lens moulds used to injection-mould smartphone camera optics. Surface figure error < 100 nm ensures distortion-free images and higher chip yields.

Jewellery & Luxury Goods
Rings, watch cases and headphone enclosures are 5-axis milled from solid 18 k gold or grade-5 titanium, then polished in the same fixture to preserve ±10 µm engraving depth for brand logos. CNC enables one-off custom pieces or hundreds of identical luxury items without wax-casting lead times.

Art, Architecture & Furniture
Artists load 200 kg aluminium billets into 3-axis gantries to carve 3 m sculptures, while architects CNC-mill Douglas-fir panels with interlocking finger joints for parametric pavilions. Five-axis heads add under-cut details impossible to chisel by hand, turning digital concepts into museum-grade works overnight.

Agriculture & Heavy Equipment
Combine harvester spindles, tractor hydraulic blocks and 2 m-wide mouldboard plough shares are machined from high-strength steel, then hard-faced with CNC laser cladding to survive 30 000 ha of abrasive soil. Replaceable wearing parts are produced on demand, slashing dealer inventory by 40 % .

Research & Rapid Prototyping
Universities and start-ups use compact CNC centres to iterate robot joints, CubeSat deployers and micro-fluidic chips within 24 h of design release. Hybrid machines switch from additive build to subtractive finish in the same enclosure, letting engineers test form, fit and function before expensive production tooling is cut .
