What Are The Reasons Of Die Casting Cracking Of Aluminum Alloy Shell

Mar 12, 2024

Aluminum alloy shell is widely used in various industries due to its excellent properties, such as light weight, high strength, good corrosion resistance and good heat dissipation. However, the cracking issue of the aluminum alloy shell during die casting process is a common problem that needs to be addressed.

There are several reasons for the cracking of the aluminum alloy shell during die casting:

1. Uneven cooling: During the cooling process of the aluminum alloy shell, the cooling rate is uneven due to the different wall thickness and the design of the product, which makes the cooling stress concentrated in a certain area and leads to cracking.

2. Overheating: In the die casting process, if the temperature of the molten aluminum alloy is too high, it will cause the aluminum alloy to be over-oxidized, which will reduce the mechanical strength of the shell and make it easier to crack.

3. Poor casting design: If the design of the aluminum alloy shell is not reasonable, such as too thin wall thickness, sharp corners, or uneven distribution of ribs, it will increase the occurrence of hot spots and lead to stress concentration, resulting in cracking.

4. Improper casting technique: The improper use of the die casting machine can also cause aluminum alloy shells to crack, such as too much pressure on the die, insufficient injection speed, or improper release of the casting.

To prevent the cracking of aluminum alloy shells during the die casting process, it is important to optimize the design of the product, control the temperature and pressure of the molten aluminum alloy, and properly adjust the die casting machine. By doing so, the aluminum alloy shell will maintain its excellent properties and provide reliable performance in different applications.
